वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण ने मंगलवार को यूरोपीय संसद सदस्य (एमईपी) बर्न्ड लैंग के नेतृत्व में यूरोपीय संघ के एक प्रतिनिधिमंडल से मुलाकात की और भारत-यूरोपीय संघ व्यापार समझौते सहित द्विपक्षीय मुद्दों पर चर्चा की।

वित्त मंत्रालय ने ट्विटर पर लिखा कि दो सबसे बड़ी खुली बाजार अर्थव्यवस्थाओं और बहुलवादी समाज के रूप में भारत और यूरोपीय संघ भागीदारी की दिशा में काम कर सकते हैं। यह भागीदारी महामारी बाद की अवधि में अंतरराष्ट्रीय नियम-आधारित व्यवस्था को बढ़ावा देगी।

मंत्रालय ने एक अन्य ट्वीट में कहा, ‘‘वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण और बर्न्ड लैंग ने सहमति व्यक्त की कि द्विपक्षीय निवेश संधि, मुक्त व्यापार समझौता और भौगोलिक संकेतक समझौते के साथ दोनों पक्षों में वार्ता पर आगे बढ़ने की उत्सुकता है।’’

दोनों पक्षों ने पारदर्शी, व्यावहारिक, समावेशी और नियम आधारित आपस में जुड़ी मजबूत वैश्विक आपूर्ति श्रृंखला को लेकर भारत और यूरोपीय संघ के बीच मजबूत सहयोग के महत्व का उल्लेख किया।
Both sides underlined that synergised cooperation between India and EU can harness opportunities to deliver on strong global value chains with transparent, viable, inclusive and rules-based inter-linkages. (4/4)

उल्लेखनीय है कि द्विपक्षीय व्यापार और निवेशक समझौता (बीटीआईए) मई, 2013 से अटका पड़ा है क्योंकि दोनों पक्ष अबतक महत्वपूर्ण मुद्दों पर सहमति नहीं बना पाये हैं।
